Business community is starting to take the lead in raising funds
Charities and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) are being courted by a growing number of corporations, which are waking up to the significance of corporate social responsibility.
Until recently, charities and NGOs, seeking funds for charitable causes, have largely worked on the system of submitting proposals for the consideration of organisations. Now that's beginning to change.
'With the growing importance of corporate social responsibility, companies are becoming much more proactive.
'Where they would once have waited for people to apply to them for funding, corporations are now much more likely to assess and identify the needs of society on their own and then make their own judgments based on the type of cause they wish to support,' explained Anti-Cancer Society chairman Ko Wing-man.
'This new trend is certainly a good thing.'
