The government yesterday renewed Star Ferry's licence to operate the ferry franchise between Central and Tsim Sha Tsui and between Wan Chai and Tsim Sha Tsui for 10 years. The government said yesterday that the new licence, with clauses in favour of the environment, would come into effect on April 1. A spokesman for the Transport and Housing Bureau said the company had promised to install closed-circuit televisions in the navigation and engine rooms to ensure safety. Existing fare concessions will remain unchanged.
