A DUMP truck driver was yesterday found guilty by a High Court jury of incest with his then 14-year-old daughter. While the man showed no emotion on hearing the guilty verdict on one count of incest, his wife, other children and sister burst into tears and shouted out he was innocent. The 37-year-old man was acquitted of two other similar offences, one of which allegedly took place when the girl was just under 11. The jury had earlier been directed to acquit him of another two counts of incest and one of indecent assault after Mr Justice Leong found him to have no case to answer on the three charges. Sentencing of the man was deferred until February 25, pending a background and a psychiatric report. During the trial, prosecuting counsel Christopher Newall had called evidence that the girl was born in June 1978 and the count of incest of which her father was convicted of occurred in October 1992. She complained to her teacher during a picnic about the attack and the police were notified on November 23, 1992. Her father, represented by Roger Liu, denied the allegations and called his daughter a liar. He told the court that on one occasion, he was angry with her because she did not return home until after 10 pm and cut up her school uniform with a pair of scissors. He contended that she was very upset about the incident and told lies about him in revenge.
