The last 12 months have seen a number of Final Fantasy titles released, including Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings for the Nintendo DS.
In Final Fantasy XII: Revenant Wings, we catch up with Vaan and his friends in the skies above Ivalice. The story picks up a year after the events of FFXII and Vaan has realised his dream of becoming a sky pirate.
On one of his treasure hunts, Vaan discovers the Cache of Glabados: a mystical crystal that will lead him to the once-secret sky continent Lemures. There he has to help save the winged inhabitants of Lemures from the evil being known as the Judge of Wings.
Revenant Wings is a real time strategy (RTS) game. Command of your army is done through the touchscreen, while the battlefield action takes place on the top screen. Each character in your party becomes a leader of a small band of Espers (mystical monsters) that will help fight for you.
There are three types of fighters: melee, who are good at close combat; ranged fighters, who are normally spell casters who attack from afar; and aerial fighters, who are good close-range fighters.
The three types of fighters are like rock, paper, scissors - each one can out-fight one type of fighter and be beaten by the second. This helps to balance the fighting and makes the player more conscious of how to plan his battle strategy.
