IS CHINA'S ban on prostitution out of step with a market economy and will it hinder the development of tourism? These questions are being asked in a survey in Fujian province to find out more about the sexual attitudes of foreign visitors.
Compiled by the provincial government, the survey is being distributed by its tourism bureau at Fuzhou international airport as well as by customs officers.
Twenty questions are being asked about visitors' sexual behaviour, attitudes and knowledge, including views on prostitution.
The questionnaire stresses all information will be kept secret.
Authorities claim the survey is not connected with arrival and departure procedures, even though customs officers hand out the questionnaire as passengers present themselves at their counters.
Completed forms are deposited in boxes in the airport's waiting room or handed to airport employees.
The questionnaire, printed in both Chinese and English, also asks the respondent's number of sexual partners and knowledge in preventing AIDS.
