Shares in Macau casino investor Century Legend soared as much as 73.91 per cent in after the company said it planned to sell its entire 25 per cent stake in the Holiday Inn Macau and the attached Diamond casino in a deal worth HK$330 million in cash and debt. Century Legend, which bought Holiday Inn's stake from its controlling shareholders in November 2005 for HK$55.7 million, said it was cashing out 'in order to realise its investment and concentrate on the group's internal resources'. The buyer was identified as British Virgin Islands firm Keenfull Investments. Net proceeds from the sale are HK$236 million and Century Legend will book a gain of HK$133 million. Century Legend's 25 per cent stake in the Holiday Inn hotel and casino entitled it to a cut of gaming revenue from the 40-table mass market hall and fixed rent from four VIP gaming rooms. The company swung to an underlying loss in the first half from a profit of HK$8.5 million a year earlier after sales dropped 80 per cent to HK$49.51 million. Shares in Century Legend closed up 30.43 per cent at 60 HK cents following yesterday's announcement.
