Claudio Fernandez-Araoz is from Buenos Aires. He graduated with undergraduate and graduate degrees in industrial engineering at the Argentine Catholic University and obtained his MBA at Stanford University.

Over a 25-year quest for the keys to organisational achievement he realised that few people had seriously asked the question: What makes for success?

He believes the best business schools should - and will soon - incorporate people decisions into their curriculum. He is in discussions with the Chinese University of Hong Kong and Singapore Management University to do this.

Great People Decisions: Why They Matter So Much, Why They Are So Hard, and How You Can Master Them is his first book.

He has collaborated with other top writers including former General Electric chief executive Jack Welch in his latest book, Winning.

Fernandez-Araoz said he had struck a deal with People's Publishing House (Oriental Press) to translate Great People Decisions into simplified Chinese for the mainland market. The Chinese translation will be in the market in May, ahead of the German translation.

He said the strong interest in his book in the mainland could be due to the country's acute talent shortage.

The mainland needed an estimated 75,000 business leaders but had only 3,000 to 5,000 managers in the market, he said. Great People Decisions has sold 100,000 copies.
