Young designer Sherry Kwok stole the show at the Young Fashion Designers Contest last night, being crowned overall winner. Her collection - themed 'innocent girl going to a new world' - also won the top prize in the 'contemporary day wear' category. Michael Lau grabbed the top prize in the 'party and evening wear' group. His collection - 'The silent closet' - also won him the award for most innovative collection, sponsored by the YD Alumni Club. The winner for 'casual and jeans wear' was Vikki Yau, while the City Magazine Prize went to Kristy Tang, who competed in the 'party and evening wear' group. More than 200 entries were submitted for this year's competition, with 18 making it to last night's finals at the Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The event was one of the highlights of Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2008, Asia's largest fashion fair, which is organised by the Trade Development Council and started yesterday. Some 1,490 exhibitors from 20 countries are participating in this year's Fashion Week, slightly down on last year's 1,501. Israel is participating for the first time. Running with Fashion Week is the World Boutique exhibition, which puts the latest fashion labels together under one roof. It has attracted 366 brands and 255 exhibitors from 13 countries. Fashion Week and World Boutique run until Thursday but are not open to the public.
