The government has ruled out installing partial screen doors on the platforms of 68 stations along the Light Rail line, saying they would only add to the dangers faced by passengers. The proposal - from lawmaker Fernando Cheung Chiu-hung to prevent blind passengers from falling onto the tracks - would cut the size of already packed platforms in half, Transport Secretary Eva Cheng Yu-wah said yesterday. But she said the bureau would consider a high-pitched signal as trains arrived, to alert the visually impaired.
