Fog delayed hiker rescue

HEAVY fog may have cost the life of hiker Hung Wai-man, 31, in a fall from a cliff near Tai Po on Sunday. Rescuers took more than 12 hours to reach Hung after fog and darkness prevented a helicopter being used.

Hung was found unconscious by the 100-strong rescue team comprising police, firemen and Civil Aid Services personnel at 7.05 am on a hillside near Ping Fung Shan, Wong Leng.

It took more than two hours to bring him down the hill to Hok Tau where an ambulance took him to Fanling Hospital. Hung was pronounced dead before arrival.
