A French action vehicle, Chrysalis is a melting pot of science fiction thrillers.
Set in Paris in 2025, the film shocks the audience from the opening scene when a surgeon and her daughter get hit by a car in the middle of a conversation.
We are then plunged into the middle of a breathtaking gun battle scene. David Hoffman (Albert Dupontel), a gung-ho police officer, and his wife-cum-partner are chasing after Nikolov (Alain Figlarz), a vicious Bulgarian thug who is involved in a series of vile murders and human trafficking.
Nikolov snaps Hoffman's wife's neck, leaving the officer emotionally wounded and mentally unstable.
With help from his new partner Marie Becker (Marie Guillard), Hoffman continues his investigation, which leads him to a surgeon who can manipulate people's memories.
Director Julien Leclercq borrows subplots and visual cues from movies such as Total Recall and Minority Report, creating a high-octane action film full of violent action setpieces that shock and thrill.
