Deputy police commissioner Peter Yam Tat-wing issued a clarification last night in response to an Oriental Daily News report that a station sergeant had been sent out on patrol alone without a gun as punishment for having offended his superintendent. Mr Yam admitted the sergeant had done 'a small amount' of patrol work without a gun but was not being punished; he had been injured and was doing mostly administrative work, which did not require a gun. The sergeant had agreed to limited patrol work with communication support, he said.
