A man will be sentenced on Thursday after admitting his role in the kidnapping of three businessmen for ransom early last year.
To Ka-hing pleaded guilty in the Court of First Instance to three counts of forcible detention of a person with intent to procure a ransom, two counts of robbery, and a single count of theft.
An alleged accomplice, Feng Yaotian, was acquitted during a pre-trial inquiry that ended yesterday.
The court heard that To, who entered his plea on January 17, was part of a gang that kidnapped and threatened three businessmen during the first half of last year.
The first, a scrap-metal dealer referred to as Mr Y, was snatched on February 9 after being lured to inspect a load of scrap in Yuen Long. He was taken to a house and robbed of HK$2,500 in cash and numerous personal effects before a HK$5 million ransom was demanded.
He denied having any money and was held for several days before being released with another man, a mainland businessman known as Mr Z, who had also fallen prey to the gang.
