Students steer way around Middle Island during inter-school competition
The Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club's (RHKYC) dinghy sailing centre at its Middle Island Clubhouse was packed with youngsters eager to take part in the sixth Bowne Inter-Schools Sailing Festival over the weekend.
Nine teams raced against each other in two fleets of six Topaz dinghies last Saturday and Sunday in the sea around Middle Island.
The cold weather and freezing wind did not dent the enthusiasm of the 75 young sailors participating in the festival. The competitors were all students from local and international schools aged between 12 and 18.
There were 18 races on each day, and one round-the-island race last Sunday. The competition between the schools was keen and all of the teams did their utmost to win.
Last year's champions, Island School's Team A, failed to retain their title.
