Deborah Lai, mother-in-law of Cecilia Cheung Pak-chi, has broken her silence and talked about the nude photo controversy for the first time.

During a recent radio show, Lai told host Eileen Cha Siu-yan how it had affected her: 'I have been under a lot of pressure lately, I think I am going to go mad soon. Some paparazzi made me see those pictures, I told them I didn't want to but they still forced me to. I have my own rights.'

On January 27, some obscene photos purportedly of Lai's daughter-in-law Cheung, Edison Chen Koon-hei, Gillian Chung Yan-tung and Bobo Chan Man-woon were found circulating on the internet.

Lai said she wasn't in the habit of reading newspapers or magazines and she didn't find out about the case until it made the headlines on television and radio news last week.

Lai said she refused to ask Cheung whether or not the pictures were really of her. 'As a family member, it will only disgrace my status as her mother-in-law if I ask her that. I will only support my family.'

She denied rumours suggesting her son Nicholas Tse Ting-fung would divorce Cheung over the scandal. 'They are a married couple. No matter how difficult it is, they will have to face the challenge together.'
