Censors release list of 10 'suitable' internet games for young people
Mainland censors have listed 10 'suitable' online video games for teenagers as part of a drive to purify cyberspace for the young.
The 10 games were selected by a censorship committee under the Ministry of Culture from dozens recommended by the public, Xinhua reported yesterday.
The ministry chose them because they were 'healthy' and could 'enhance intelligence', it said.
The list should help guide parents so they can best direct their children during the winter holidays, the ministry said. Schools usually take their winter break some time during January and February.
All 10 games are domestic products, comprising five role-playing games, four recreational games and one educational game. It is the third time the ministry has issued such a list. The others were published in August 2005 and January 2006, with a total of 25 games listed.
In the past few years, online video games have become the most popular pastime for millions of young people.
