TCL Multimedia Holdings, the world's biggest television maker by unit sales, said it would double output of liquid-crystal display television to about three million sets this year to target the ranking of the largest supplier on the mainland or No8 worldwide.
'We would like to boost our share in the global LCD TV market to 4 per cent this year from 1.8 per cent last year,' said TCL Multimedia chief executive Leong Yue-wing. 'Our LCD TV output will be about 2.9 million to three million sets this year, compared with 1.5 million to 1.6 million sets [last year].'
The company is aiming for 10 per cent growth in profit and television sales volume on the mainland this year, according to its development strategy released last month. TCL Multimedia's local sales fell 14.3 per cent to 1.73 million television sets in the three months to September last year while overseas sales dropped 39 per cent to 2.13 million sets after a business restructure.
Mr Leong said the company had become a multinational business with its overseas sales exceeding domestic sales.
According to researcher GfK Asia, Hisense Group was the largest LCD television supplier on the mainland with 10.4 per cent market share by volume during the first nine months of last year.
Skyworth Digital Holdings and Samsung Electronics ranked second- and third-largest with 9.68 per cent and 9.24 per cent, respectively. TCL was No4 with 7.53 per cent.
