Chinese University has broadened the scope of its MBA programmes with the recent launch of its JD/MBA programme in the business administration faculty.

The university already offers a double MBA degree with two overseas universities, which is a combination of the Juris Doctor (JD) Asia programme run by the university's law faculty, and the MBA programme run by the business faculty.

Designed for graduates with non-law disciplines, the JD/MBA is a postgraduate law degree with a focus on Chinese business law and international trade and economic law, while the MBA programme focused on general management.

Lawrence Chan, administrative director (marketing and student recruiting) of MBA programmes at the university, said the university and its alumni in the business sector saw a need to provide both legal and advanced business education to young professionals. 'We are following the trends in the United States, and we became the first university in Asia to launch this programme,' Mr Chan said.

Students enrolling in the programme will be required to complete 12 units of MBA coursework and JD coursework to fulfil the requirements of the JD programme and the MBA programme respectively. This allows students to reduce the combined units of coursework by up to 24 units, thereby allowing them to potentially earn the double degree faster than if they studied the programmes separately.

The full-time mode of study requires 102 units to be completed; the part-time course has 96 units.
