Parties across the political spectrum are urging the government to investigate David Li Kwok-po's insider-trading settlement to ease the public's concerns.

After a Legislative Council spring gathering yesterday, Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen declined to comment when asked if Mr Li's case had tarnished the government's reputation.

The chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment and Progress of Hong Kong, Tam Yiu-chung, said the government and relevant financial institutions should look into the matter, even though it was difficult to say if Mr Li should stay a member of the Executive Council.

DAB lawmaker Chan Kam-lam said this week that people should consider the banker guilty but that his Exco seat should not be in doubt.

Sin Chung-kai, of the Democratic Party, agreed with Mr Chan but party colleague Lee Wing-tat said yesterday Mr Li, as an Exco member, could not hide from the public.
