Who's behind it? Chine was started by Luc Duchene and Guillaume Thys 14 years ago in Belgium. Duchene is a fashion entrepreneur while Thys is a self-taught designer with a passion for sourcing materials, especially Chinese silk. Wanting to make couture-cut clothing that could go from day to night, the duo joined forces to launch Chine, a homage to ancient Chinese culture.

Why we love it: seamlessly fusing comfort, femininity and refinement, Chine's styles are hip yet classic. Vintage materials are reworked into modern, multifunctional shapes, giving its clothes a unique edge. The spring/summer collection uses gossamer fabrics such as chiffon and georgette in soft pastel shades juxtaposed against black and white. The leather jackets convey a tough street look while detailed prints and hints of lace add a touch of softness. Look for pieces such as the pale yellow halter-neck cocktail dress (right; HK$6,300), with a subtly beaded neckline that makes it perfect for day and night. Or, throw on the floaty beaded top (HK$4,625) with a pair of jeans for a night out on the town.

Where can I buy it? Chine is available exclusively at Sonjia, 2 Sun Street, Wan Chai, tel: 2529 6223.
