Staff with creative flair wanted for visual display team

Visual display staff are a key recruitment target for the DFS Galleria Macau. A team of five is on board so far, supported by another 15 in Hong Kong, but the company is keen to hire even more.

'There are definitely positions available,' said David Charles, DFS Hong Kong managing director.

'We would dearly love to recruit locally, but as the opening gets closer and hiring looks like it will be difficult, we will have no choice but to import staff.'

Previous experience is not essential. 'We can teach the basic merchandising skills. What we are mostly looking for is creative flair. For all employees, of course we look for commitment, and people who think out of the box. But in merchandising you also need an element of creativity.'

At the DFS Galleria, the visual display team has two major responsibilities. One is to execute the global brand strategies of international boutiques such as Gucci and Prada. The other is for the team to develop creative merchandising initiatives for the Galleria's watch and beauty departments.

'It goes a lot further than just dressing mannequins and putting up signs,' Mr Charles explained.
