A former Taiwanese politician has reconciled with an ex-magazine publisher, seven years after she was forced to leave the island following a sex video released by the publication.
Chu Mei-feng, 41, now Macau Asian Satellite TV's top anchorwoman, yesterday said she forgave Shen Jung, former publisher of Taiwanese tabloid Scoop magazine, as Ms Shen walked out of a prison in Taoyuan, south of Taipei.
'I think this is the first step of her new life, and I hope to give her a boost,' said Ms Chu after she hugged Ms Shen in front of the prison.
Ms Chu fled abroad after Ms Shen released the controversial VCD along with a lengthy story about Ms Chu's alleged promiscuity in 2001, in an attempt to increase the circulation of the weekly publication.
The 45-minute video, secretly taped by a female friend of Ms Chu with a pinhole camera, purportedly showed her having sex with a married man. Ms Chu sued the tabloid for libel and infringement of privacy and the court sentenced Ms Shen to two years in jail.
The video later circulated on the internet, becoming the most viewed footage in the Chinese-speaking world at that time.
