Bumper year for Macau tourism
The number of Hong Kong tourists visiting Macau increased 17 per cent to 8.17 million last year, the director of Macau's Government Tourist Office, Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, said yesterday. He said visitors to Macau topped 27 million for the year, a record.
Concern at Lantau storage yards
Some Town Planning Board members fear more illegal storage yards will spring up on Lantau Island after the Hong Kong-Macau-Zhuhai bridge is built. Their comments follow the Planning Department's proposal to provide another 14 sites for container storage in the New Territories in the hope this will force operators to move their illegal business to legal sites.
Tourism Board facing lean year
The Hong Kong Tourism Board for the first time will have to dip into its reserve to pay for next fiscal year's expenditure. The government approved funding of HK$520 million to the board for 2008-09, HK$40 million less than it had sought.
