Madhouse Productions - the group responsible for shows like Galaxy Angel and Metropolis, the re-interpretation of Fritz Lang's classic 1927 sci-fi film - are back with Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro (Private Evil Eye Nogami Neuro). The anime is based on Yusei Matsui's popular manga work published in Weekly Shonen Jump. Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro is a supernatural detective series and chronicles the adventures of a demon called Neuro Nogami that feeds on mysteries. After consuming all the mysteries in his own realm, he comes to the human world in search of more tantalising sustenance. So as not to attract too much attention, he disguises himself as a human and forces high school girl Yako Katsuragi to become a detective. Yako is trying to solve the mysterious and bloody death of her father who was found in a locked room. By solving crimes and murder mysteries, Neuro is able to feed on the negative energies of the culprit. He discovers that human mysteries are far more appetising than the tasteless, bland offerings of his own world. Neuro acts through Yako, crediting her with the solved cases and acting as her assistant even though he's the brains behind everything - the rules of his realm require him to keep a low profile while in our world. This is an amusing anime with a similar level of mystery to Detective Conan. The Majin Tantei Nogami Neuro graphic novels can be found at newspaper stands in Chinese. Keep an eye out for the anime on DVD: Episode 3 was released this week and Episode 4 is due out March 26.
