A Nike designer has created a home with clean lines and open spaces - perfect to show off his collection of antique sports equipment.
'For any Hongkonger who has ever lived outside Hong Kong, space is so important,' says Peter Witham, a design director at Nike. 'Above all, I wanted my place to feel spacious.'
This directive was achieved by knocking down almost every wall in two adjoining studio flats, creating a 1,000 sq ft, two-bedroom apartment with an open living space fronted by a 1,000 sq ft terrace, in Discovery Bay. A picturesque sea view enhances the open feel.
Concertina glass doors fitted along the length of the living area can be fully opened, blurring the boundary between inner sanctum and terrace and instantly doubling the living space. The effect is emphasised by the flooring: the pale flagstones used throughout the interior are similar to those on the terrace. The inside/outside theme is repeated in the kitchen, from where, through a single pane of glass, the worktop appears to run into the outdoor barbecue area.
Drawing on his professional skills as a designer, Witham made detailed storyboards for all the fixtures and fittings he wanted to complement his vision of a clean masculine space with strong elements from nature.
