Brazilian star Detinho scored his 19th goal of the season as South China defeated Eastern 1-0 to reach the League Cup final at Mong Kok Stadium yesterday.
The towering hitman left it late though, heading home in the 88th minute to put the Caroliners in their first cup final of the season. It was his first goal of the competition, having come back from a recent injury.
South China, who are chasing back-to-back league titles, put an end to Eastern's hopes of a second successive cup final appearance after they won the Senior Shield in December.
South China will meet Kitchee in the final later this month after Kitchee's 2-0 win over Convoy Sun Hei with midfielder Goran Stankouski and defender Cheung Kin-fung on target.
Stankouski hit the opener in the 55th minute when he slotted home from close range and Cheung doubled the tally 12 minutes later with a 18-yard shot which was deflected into the net.
Stankouski was one of the heroes in the Hong Kong League XI's 2-1 victory over Croatian side Hajduk Split, scoring both his team's goals in the Lunar New Year Cup final last month.
