Hong Kong's 100-year-old media mogul Sir Run Run Shaw is in good health and has been admitted to hospital only for a regular check-up, a TVB executive says.

TVB general manager Stephen Chan Chi-wan was commenting yesterday after reports that the Shaw Studio and TVB founder had been admitted to hospital.

Mr Chan thanked the public for their concern on Sir Run Run's behalf. 'His health is in very good condition, so please give him some space and do not speculate on his condition,' he said.

A TVB spokesman said Sir Run Run would remain in hospital for a couple of days and would be discharged soon. It was reported he had been admitted to St Teresa's Hospital in Kowloon and his wife, Mona Shaw, was seen there.

In 2006, Sir Run Run was admitted to the same hospital for a week because of pneumonia.

Despite his age, Sir Run Run still makes public appearances. He attended numerous events during the Lunar New Year, including the annual gathering organised by the central government's liaison office in Hong Kong last month. He also travelled to Macau last year to visit the newest casinos.
