A VALENTINE Fun Run on the Peak yesterday attracted some of the territory's foremost runners, including top student athlete Maggie Chan Man-yee. Chan, 18, and her boyfriend Fred Lo Chi-cheung came second in the competition which required participants to finish the race hand-in-hand. Chan, who broke her own Hong Kong national 1,500-metre record at the East Asian Junior Championships last November, was beaten by Roberto de Vido and Sheila Purves who paired up just for the competition. Top track runner de Vido, 30, said he was a good friend of his partner Mrs Purves, 38, and both said they took part ''just for fun''. De Vido, Hong Kong record holder for the 1,500 metres and 8,000 metres, said he felt good racing hand-in-hand with a partner, even though he had won many awards. He added that it would be hard for him to find a female runner as good as Mrs Purves. The party finished the 3.5-kilometre run in 12 minutes 43.92 seconds and won champagne and chocolates. While local track stars Chiu Pik-kwun and Tsui Ka-fai did not finish in the positions in the Fun Run, they did complete the race together. Chiu, 28, said the event had a special meaning for them because it would pave the way for their wedding next month, after an almost four-year romantic marathon. More than 40 couples joined the Fun Run.
