Guangzhou is planning to build a marine-themed park similar to Ocean Park in Hong Kong, a mainland official has said.
Chen Yuwei, deputy head of Panyu district's development planning bureau, said the proposed park would feature marine animals, games and rides.
'All theme parks have some similarities and differences,' Mr Chen said.
The park would cost 5 billion yuan (HK$5.48 billion) to build, he said. Overseas investors had already expressed interest.
'Ocean Park Hong Kong is a successful theme park. But even if we are going to move Ocean Park to Panyu, we will have to market it differently,' he said.
'We have different geographic features. Hong Kong's Ocean Park is constructed on hills, while ours will be next to the ocean,' he said. Efforts will be made to learn from other successful theme parks in the world.
