Police last night arrested a 21-year-old man for theft in connection with an 18-minute video of two former University of Hong Kong students having sex that has been circulating on the internet.

Earlier yesterday, the university and its student union appealed to students and the public to stop circulating the video and to delete it.

The video appeared on the internet after one of the former students lost a data storage device last month, a newspaper reported.

A university spokesman confirmed yesterday the video had been circulating and the university had contacted the couple concerned.

He said the university would consider referring the case to its disciplinary committee if the person who spread the video turned out to be an HKU student. The university would not tolerate any behaviour that breached people's privacy, he said.

A police spokesman said last night a 23-year-old man had reported to police on Friday the loss of a memory stick in Western district last month. The case was being investigated by district crime officers, he said.
