Shandong Governor Jiang Daming denied that the mayor of Shenzhen, Xu Zongheng, would soon be appointed a party chief of the eastern coastal city of Qingdao . 'There is no such thing and I have not learned anything about this,' Mr Jiang told the South China Morning Post on the sidelines of the National People's Congress' group discussion meeting. Ming Pao newspaper yesterday said Mr Xu would step down as Shenzhen mayor later this month after the city held its own people's congress meeting. The report said Mr Xu would be made Qingdao mayor and be succeeded by Lin Xiong, the Guangdong publicity department director. 'If we get a new party chief, what will happen to the current party secretary?' Mr Jiang asked, referring to current Qingdao party secretary Yan Qijun . Qingdao Mayor Xia Geng yesterday also said he had not heard about Mr Xu's possible appointment. 'I really don't know anything about this.'
