Clues sought after body of newborn found in shopping bag
A post-mortem examination on a newborn girl whose body was found in a paper bag on Sunday had not determined the cause of death, and further tests were necessary, police said. The baby, with her umbilical cord still attached, was found wrapped in a towel and black coat inside a shopping bag on a walkway at the junction of Connaught Road Central and Pedder Street at about 2.45pm. Elderly woman pulled from river
An 83-year-old woman was in critical condition last night after being rescued from the Shing Mun River in Sha Tin. Passers-by saw the woman jump into the river from the Yuen Wo Road waterfront at 11.08am. She was semi-conscious when pulled from the water by the crew of a passing fireboat.
Pole falls from crane onto guard
Police arrested a 36-year-old crane operator after a bamboo pole fell from a bundle being lifted at Richland Gardens in Wang Kwong Road, Kowloon Bay. The pole hit a security guard, who was treated for head injuries.
