Cuisine: Sushi and contemporary Japanese.
Ambience: The lifts open directly into the dimly lit restaurant. Give your eyes time to adjust and you'll see the bubbling Zen fountains that complement the minimalist yet intimate feel to the dining room. If you want more privacy, grab one of the booths lining the side; otherwise take centre stage at the sushi bar - where  interaction is expected.
Price: A mix of dishes from the sushi bar and cooked food kitchen is about HK$350 before drinks and 10 per cent service charge. A sashimi and sushi omakase (chef's choice)  costs about HK$400 to HK$600 each without drinks and service charge.
Pros: The sushi chef was attentive and gave us an informal tasting tailored to individual preferences - my guest was particularly impressed with the chef's sensitivity to his inexperience with sashimi. In general, service was friendly and helpful - except for one odd instance when I ordered a recommended drink, only to have my waiter come back 10 minutes later to say the drink was 'strange-tasting', and that I should try something else.
Cons: In the menu, the heading for signature dishes is translated in English as 'Japanese cuisine', which might be confusing for some of us. There were quite a few items not available on a Saturday night, including the signature Manzou Cup, and the grilled chicken liver skewer. Be sure to ask the chef about specials - they are written on the board in Chinese only. Unless you are going for the hotpot dinners, don't expect to walk out holding your stomach - portions are small.
Recommended dishes: Overall, the sushi was quite delectable - the hand-rolls were well-portioned and the seaweed crisp.  Try the Japanese rice cake (mochi) with eel (HK$42, left) - pieces of eel are wrapped in mochi and seaweed, cut into pieces and tempura- fried. The crunch of the batter contrasts nicely with the chewiness of the mochi and the softness of the eel. The Tanaba crab congee (HK$88) made a subtle warm finish to the meal, counteracting the chill from the overzealous air conditioning.
What else? Lunch sets range from HK$68 to HK$128. There's a 50 per cent discount on any a la carte item if you order it with a lunch set.
