Miss Macau to pass on crown, end 11-year reign

Agnes Lo Vai-van has held the Miss Macau title for 11 years, and says she is glad that a successor will finally replace her this year.

Macau has not held a beauty pageant since 1998, but the booming casino business is helping to revive the annual event.

'I really feel lucky, as perhaps no one else can be Miss Macau for more than 10 years,' Ms Lo, the 1997 winner, said at a press conference touting the pageant.

'Macau has evolved from a small town to a city with international recognition over the years.

'I am glad the pageant is coming back.'

The Sands Macao casino will stage the Miss Macau pageant in September, and the Venetian Macao will host the Miss International contest in November.
