A new broom
GETTING to the core of the litter problem in our country parks is very simple. The parks are already heavily littered along many paths, trails, beaches and camping areas.
We can do something about it. Many areas are of such outstanding beauty that it would be grossly irresponsible to leave them in such a shoddy state.
I'm afraid the main culprits are school kids or youngsters who just throw away empty drink cans.
Let's have a government-sponsored clean-up campaign getting the public, including school kids, out into the parks collecting all the rubbish. This would be useful for the kids in several ways - creating environmental responsibility, community spirit and pride in Hong Kong.
If we can't manage this then we must spend taxpayers' money to do so. JOHN F. CAMERON Mid-Levels
