ZTE wins construction contract for Pakistan WDM network ZTE Corp, the mainland's second-largest telecommunications equipment manufacturer, has won a tender from Pakistan's biggest fixed-line communications operator to help build the country's largest wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) fibre-optic transmission network. State-owned Pakistan Telecommunication selected ZTE to deploy WDM infrastructure, which helps boost a network's capacity without laying more fibre-optic cable, in an area that spans up to 600km and runs through most of the country's major cities and regions. Financial terms were not given. Bien Perez China Life Insurance to adopt SAP software for resource planning China Life Insurance, the mainland's largest life insurer, is adopting German firm SAP's enterprise resource planning software for an undisclosed amount to build up its financial and human resources management processes. 'SAP allows insurers to build their delivery strategy on a stable platform of enterprise management and industry-specific applications,' said Geraldine McBride, president and chief executive of SAP Asia Pacific and Japan. Bien Perez Youku links with MySpace China for networking venture Youku, the mainland's leading video-sharing website operator, has struck a strategic partnership with social networking service provider MySpace China for the domestic market. 'We believe the marriage of a video and social networking website will significantly enhance the user experience for China's online consumers,' said Victor Koo, chief executive of Youku, which was launched in December 2006. MySpace China is a locally owned, operated and managed venture formed by United States-based social networking provider MySpace, technology media firm IDG and China Broadband Capital Partners. Bien Perez Hactl completes revamp of data storage system Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Ltd (Hactl), which operates the world's largest single air cargo hub, has completed a revamp of its data storage system for an undisclosed amount. The project, implemented with IBM China/Hong Kong, will help reduce downtime, business continuity and adoption of advanced disaster recovery plans, while managing Hactl operations. The operator, which handles about 70 per cent of air cargo throughput at Hong Kong International Airport, serves about 90 international airlines and 1,000 freight forwarders. Bien Perez
