TV actor fined over punch
TVB kung fu actor Law Mong was fined HK$2,000 in Kwun Tong Court yesterday for punching an ambulanceman, sent after an emergency call was received claiming Law was drunk. Law, whose real name is Law Kwan-lam, admitted a charge of common assault. He attacked the victim on January 28 near his home at Lower Wong Tai Sin Estate. The drunk and disorderly charge was withdrawn.
Discrimination complaints up
Complaints about discrimination increased 22 per cent to 874 last year, up from 717 in 2006. Equal Opportunities Commission chief Raymond Tang Yee-bong said the rise was probably due to heightened public awareness and did not necessarily mean discrimination was increasing in the city.
Short-circuit disrupts trains
A short-circuit in an insulator on an overhead cable near the Hung Hom East Rail station disrupted services for 40 minutes, with train frequency extended from four to eight minutes. Firemen were called at 5pm when passengers saw sparks from the cable. Shuttle buses carried passengers between East Tsim Sha Tsui and Mong Kok East stations.
