Jane Mayle
Who's behind it? Born in London, Jane Mayle moved to the United States as a child. Having graduated from Columbia University, New York, with a degree in literature, she decided to delve into the world of fashion. With boyfriend Chris Jarvis, Mayle opened a store named Phare in New York's Nolita neighbourhood in 1998. The following year, she launched clothing label, Mayle. The line was an instant hit and sold out in three weeks. She soon took over the entire store and renamed it after her label.
Why do we love it? Mayle's romantic and feminine clothing, such as satin blouses, cosy knits, wispy cotton tops and pretty crepe de Chine dresses, have attracted a loyal celebrity following, including Helena Christensen and Sofia Coppola. She also offers leather handbags and sling bags as well as belts and shoes with a vintage vibe.
This season look for her cream silk sheath dress with lurex applique (above; US$615) or a feminine yet edgy printed tank (right; US$416).
