Young designers turn event banners into cool bags
Banners from school or corporate events can be turned into trendy handbags, as 14 students demonstrated at a fashion show earlier this month.
They were competing in a design competition organised by Friends of the Earth (HK), banner makers Premium Collection and Community College of City University.
The 'I'm A Banner Bag' competition invited students to design bags from used banners.
The 14 finalists were picked from more than 50 entrants. Their works were modelled on the catwalk at Telford Plaza.
Chiu Yu-hang, 20, won first prize with his Blue Sky bag.
'My idea comes from Hong Kong's grey, gloomy skies. I hope the handbag will remind people about environmental conversation,' said Mr Chiu, a fashion design student of the Institute of Vocational Education (Kwai Chung).
