A student with an eye condition moved a step closer to becoming an optometrist yesterday when she was granted a Hong Kong Jockey Club scholarship.
Daisy Leung Ka-yan, 22, suffers from phoria, which makes it difficult to fuse the images from both eyes into a single one.
She has difficulty focusing on a computer screen for long hours - essential for a modern student.
But her condition should not pose too much of an obstacle, she said, after winning admission to Polytechnic University's optometry programme, along with a scholarship.
'I may see overlapping images only when my eyes are too tired,' she said.
Ms Leung's A level results did not qualify her for direct admission to the programme. But she has since successfully completed a two-year associate-degree programme that enabled her to reapply.
