In Hong Kong, mini rugby is played by children between five and 12. They then graduate to Colts rugby, a critical stage for those who want to turn professional.

There are more than 17 mini rugby clubs catering to about 2,000 registered players. The governing body is the Hong Kong Mini Rugby Football Union, which is part of the Hong Kong Rugby Football Union. The rules are tailored to suit the abilities and strength of children. At the under-6 level,

players can only score through tries. The season starts in September and ends in April.
