Restaurant staff, tea supplier deny charges over alleged bribery
Two staff members of a hotpot restaurant chain and a tea supplier pleaded not guilty in Kwun Tong Court to bribery charges over food supplies to the restaurant. Chiu Chak-man, 52, a former store supervisor, and Ma Ka-wo, 37, head chef of Little Sheep Hong Kong, were accused of accepting a total of HK$42,380 from suppliers in June and August last year as a reward for placing orders. Tea supplier Elvy Wong Wing-wah, 43, was charged with offering an advantage. The three, who were released on bail, will go on trial on June 27.
Smoke prompts bus evacuation
About 30 passengers were evacuated from a City Bus double-decker when dense smoke began spewing from an air vent on the upper deck at about 2pm yesterday near the junction of King's Road and Dock Street, North Point. The driver stopped the bus and evacuated the vehicle. Firemen suspected the air-conditioning system had overheated and created the smoke.
Female passenger attacked in cab
Police are searching for a man about 50 years old and a taxi driver after a woman was harassed and attacked in the taxi. Police said the 18-year-old woman shared the cab with the middle-aged man under a taxi pooling arrangement in Mong Kok. The woman called police after she got out of the cab in Tuen Mun Rural Committee Road at about 6am.
