A 62-year-old man died after taking a male impotence treatment he obtained on the mainland, the Health Department said yesterday. The man collapsed in Shenzhen last Saturday and was subsequently admitted to North District Hospital, where he died on Monday. Tests revealed he had taken pills containing sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra, and glibenclamide, a diabetes drug. A 75-year-old man also collapsed last Friday after taking an unregistered virility product containing the two drugs. He recovered and was discharged on Tuesday. The two cases brought the number of people affected by such unregistered products to 37 this year, two of whom have died.
