Part of the closed Pillar Point Valley landfill at Tuen Mun will be turned into a shooting range for next year's East Asian Games. The project was proposed by the Hong Kong Shooting Association, which is in charge of the shooting events. It will remain as a permanent shooting range after the event. In its submission to the Environmental Protection Department, the association promised to monitor landfill gases during construction and operation of the venue. It said walls would be built to ensure bullets did not hit the gas vent on the site. The association said the storage and transport of ammunition would follow the rules laid down by the police.
