Couple flees flat fire on Lantau A couple escaped injury when a fire broke out at their flat in Tung Chung, Lantau, early yesterday. The man, 33, awoke after smoke from burning curtains in the living room spread to his bedroom on the 25th floor of Seaview Crescent in Tung Chung Waterfront Road at 4am. He and his wife, 29, fled the flat and called police. Firefighters evacuated about 20 residents and doused the fire within 40 minutes. No one was injured. Police said an electrical short circuit was thought to have caused the fire. Sleeping driver arrested Police arrested a motorist for refusing to take a breathalyser test after he and a female friend were found asleep in his car in Austin Road West, Yau Ma Tei, at 6.50am. A passer-by had seen the pair, and fearing they had collapsed, called police. Officers smelled alcohol when they woke them. Attack victim taken to hospital A 32-year-old man was taken to Tuen Mun Hospital after being hit on the head in an attack outside Yau Tai House, Tin Yau Court, Tin Shui Wai, at 6am. The attacker, thought to be about 20, wore a black windbreaker and blue jeans. Suspected drug courier held Police arrested a suspected drug courier, 26, after officers found HK$60,000 worth of heroin and tranquilisers on him in a stop-and-search outside Wan Loi House, Wan Tau Tong Estate, Tai Po, at 12.30am. He was being held for questioning. Teen in court over heroin haul A 19-year-old man appears in Eastern Court today charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs. Customs officers arrested him and seized 219.18 grams of heroin worth HK$122,741 in a rucksack he was carrying in Mong Kok on Thursday. Suicide leap at Kwun Tong estate A woman, 45, with an illness jumped to her death from Tsui Mui House, Tsui Ping North Estate, Kwun Tong, at 9.13am. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
