Two top Chongqing officials suspected of corruption have been suspended from duty and placed under investigation by party disciplinary authorities.
Chongqing government spokesman Wen Tianping said yesterday that the planning bureau chief, Jiang Yong , and Jiulongbo district director Huang Yun were suspected of 'seriously violating party discipline'.
'Chongqing's discipline committee has been authorised to investigate them ... The authorities will make the investigation result public when it comes out and handle the case according to law,' Mr Wen said.
According to mainland media, the officials are believed to have taken millions of yuan in bribes from property developers to help smooth the way for land deals.
Mr Huang and Mr Jiang were suspected of illegally helping several developers in either land acquisition or tampering with legal documents, Caijing said on its website.
The magazine said the corruption occurred two years ago, when Mr Huang was Shaba district's director and Mr Jiang was believed to have close contact with developers there.
