Fans of the long-running sci-fi anime series Macross will be excited to learn of the latest addition to the franchise, Macross Frontier. The first series of this space show, which is set in 1999, was broadcast in 1982. It proved extremely popular in Asia and had a big following in the United States where it is called RoboTech. The new series celebrates the 25th anniversary of the original show and is set after Macross 7 (1994-1996), the second television series. The year is 2059 and, after surviving the war with the Zentradi, a cruel race of alien giants, humanity has expanded its space exploration to all corners of the universe. The show centres on the events that take place on the 25th colonial fleet, the Macross Frontier. While a reconnaissance plane is exploring an asteroid belt, it is attacked and destroyed by an alien mecha. The regular military is unable to stop this new threat, so a private military contractor - the S.M.S - is brought in to combat the aliens, using a new mech called the VF-25 variable fighter. During the battle, the lead alien mech manages to get into the civilian area of the Macross Frontier, causing havoc. A VF-25 pilot is forced to eject and is killed by the unknown alien enemy. A young cadet pilot is forced to take the controls of the abandoned VF-25 to stop it from killing a young girl. Will the cadet succeed in protecting the young girl? You'll have to wait until the series comes to Animax HK in the near future or buy the Japanese DVDs when they come out in a few months.
