The filming of a movie about nine homeless men who form a soccer team kicked off yesterday with a match between the men and the actors who play them.
Directed by Adrian Kwan Shun-fai and due for release in October, Team of Miracle: We Will Rock You follows the lives of the nine men who wound up on the streets.
They all join a soccer team for the homeless and find their way back to employment and their families through team spirit.
Kwan, who described the movie as 'a dream come true', said month-long shooting would start today in Central and Sheung Wan.
The inspiration behind the film, Ng Wai-tung, a social worker from the Society for Community Organisation, applauded the men's courage for sharing their stories.
Kwan said he was inspired after seeing a television programme and reading news stories about Mr Ng's team of homeless players in 2005. Kwan contacted the social worker and followed him for two years as he made his rounds of the homeless in Sham Shui Po, Yau Ma Tei, at the Cultural Centre and under bridges.
