From the novelty PR file: the Mandarin Oriental decided to help one of its prime retail tenants celebrate a landmark birthday with a most unusual cake. This year marks Italian brand Salvatore Ferragamo's 80th anniversary, so the hotel's pastry kitchen took one of the label's most popular mules and turned it into an edible item. Cake artist Bob Tay worked from photos to create the Rainbow Shoe Cake. The high-heel sole was cut from English fruit cakes, while the straps are of chocolate covered in icing and gold colouring. It took him two days to produce the pair from scratch. Each contains about 0.5kg of cake. Since Tay only created one pair, they are not for sale. Instead, they will be on display at the Mandarin cake shop until the end of April. From the picture, we guess they're a size four.
