Michael Tse Tin-wah, actor
After more than 20 years  in the business, Michael Tse Tin-wah finally feels  like a star.
Over the last two decades, Tse has done everything from backing dancing and recording two albums as a member of
boy band  Wind Fire Sea to  participating in local musicals and bagging the championship in a  dance competition.
He has  surprised many with his  range of talents and commitment to his dream.
The  performer says he can easily identify the  roles and productions which  he believes were major turning points in his career.
'The first [production] has got to be Young and Dangerous.  It was such a surprise. I never expected the movie  to be so successful,' says Tse, who reprised his role  in several of the movie's sequels.
'It  was a great opportunity for me,  as people started to take notice  of Michael Tse.'
In the triad  movie, Tse  played Tai Tin Yee,  a member of Chan Ho-nam's gang.
Although he was portraying a tough character who most audience members would not sympathise with, Tse says this  didn't concern him. He needed  a breakthrough, and all he was worried about was good acting.
The second chance came  in 1997 when  Jacky Cheung Hok-yau asked him to star in his musical Snow.Wolf.Lake.
Since he was known primarily for his role as a triad member,  many people  doubted Tse's abilities.
'There were many who questioned my ability to star in a musical. Some said 'He's  a gangster, what does he know about singing and acting?'
'I  was so proud to prove them wrong with my performances. A lot of people have viewed me differently since then,' he says.
His next big break came  in 2006 when Tse was  cast in the TV drama La Femme Desperado.
'I was a bit worried when I first read the script,  as the character is really nasty. I had fear of being  attacked on the streets,'  says Tse.
' But I was overjoyed by the praise I received for my acting. I had successfully  represented a character  and been accepted  by audiences.'
His  latest opportunity came when he was asked to represent TVB in taking part in the Strictly Come Dancing competition in Hunan  last year.
Although he started out  as a dancer,  Tse  hadn't trained for several years.
But his decision to risk it paid off:  he won the   Dancing King title, as well as  introducing him up to  200 million  new fans.
'I experienced tremendous pressure in the few months up North. The schedule was quite packed and there were quite a number of strong opponents in the competition. It was really an honour to have won.'
Though Tse is now concentrating  on TV shows, he  hopes  one day  to produce a pure dance show.
'This is just something  I think about. There's nothing concrete yet, but I  hope to put my ideas on stage and  put on an unforgettable  performance.'
